MAT RATS CLASS 1A PREVIEW 2010-2011

FARVORITES: KENYON-WANAMINGO KNIGHTS AND ZUMBROTA-MAZZEPA COUGARS

The Knights should be a favorite in Section 1A with the experience back from their 22-8 campaign and runner up finish in Section 1A behind Zumbrota-Mazeppa. They have two state qualifiers back including state champion Mitchel Lexvold. The Knights have five section place winners and eleven back with a great deal of varsity experience. Look for Derek Melhouse, Oakley McLain, Wayne Henslin and Luke Hainka to lead the way for the Knights make a strong challenge for section and conference honors. Despite the graduation of five seniors including four state place winners.
Look for the Cougars of Zumbrota-Mazeppa to make a strong challenge with all the experience back from a 28-8 campaign and their section championship and four place state finish, for both section and conference honors. They will have ten wrestlers back including six section place winners including two state qualifiers. Look for Chad Matthees, Grant Kyllo, Brandon Klendworth, Nick Majerus and Mitch Watkins to be their key leaders.

DARKHORES: HAYFIELD VIKINGS AND THE CHATFIELD GOPHERS

The Hayfield Vikings could make a challenge as they have back a good bunch back from their 8-13 campaign. They have six section place winners including one state qualifier and five others with a great deal of experience returning. They only graduated one senior, look for them to make a strong challenge in the section dual meet campaign and conference honors. Jake Siemers, Myles Moreno, Mason Moreno, Blake Arndt and Zach Davis will be their key leaders.
The Gophers of Chatfield will again challenge for top honors in section one as they have back from a 21-9 campaign one state qualifier, five section place winners and five others with a great deal of experience. Despite the graduation of a state champion, one qualifier and a section place winner they should be looking to challenge for a top four spot in the section 1A dual meet campaign. Their key leaders should Juan Gomez, Zach Curry, Alex Haffner and Harvey Frederich.


Look for the Falcons of Wabasha-Kellogg to push for a top four spot in the section. There are three state medal winners back from last season that includes: Mitchel Lexvold of Kenyon-Wanamingo, Chad Matthees of Zumbrota-Mazeppa, Grant Hegge of Southland. There are a total of ten returning state qualifiers from last years state tourney action. Those not mentioned above are: Jake Krogstad of Dover-Eyota, Rusty Grisim of Lake City, Cody Ball, Ian Peck, Carson Henry and Andrew Dayland of St. Charles and Mick Roemer of Wabasha-Kellogg.

Look for the following wrestlers: Mike Churchill of Southland, Dane Eurle, Porter Secrist and Andrew Stomness of Wabasha-Kellogg, Jordan Theed and Alex Hoff of LARP, Dakota Jensen of Triton, Zac Littefield of Dover-Eyota, Brady Haze, Sam McPhail of Pine Island and Phil Novak, Will Balow and Elliot Cox of Lake City to challenge for medals at the end of the season.
