MAT RATS TOP CLASS A TEAMS
1. ATWATER-COSMOS-GROVE CITY
The Falcons continue to turn in very impressive performances as they topped a pair of section 5A foes Eden Valley-Watkins 63-9 and Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 60-10. They topped three foes at the "Border Battle Duals" at Canby with wins over Class AA No. 6 ranked Adrian 34-25, No. 8AA ranked Grand Rapids 60-9 and the host Canby 47-10. Logan Peterson, Hayden Rouser, Matt Lee, Larry Bomstad, Matt Meyer, Mike Kramer and Ryan Larson were all 3-0 at the "Border Battle". They topped Class A Lean and Mean BOLD 45-13 in a very good dual. The Falcons really turned in a great showing with big wins over AA Lean and Mean Windom Area 41-19 and Section 7A power Royalton 70-0.
2. KIMBALL CUBS
The Cubs have had equally as impressive performances with huge wins over AA Lean and Mean Annandale/Maple Lake 43-17, Section 5A and Conference rival Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 64-7. They also topped Central Minnesota Conference foe Royalton 54-12. They had a great win over AAA Lean and Mean Shakopee 43-24. The Cubs turned a few heads as they topped the field of teams at the "Les Kertscher" Duals as they topped No. 7A ranked North Dakota foe Fargo North 70-9 and in a pair of huge upsets topped the No. 2A ranked Frazee 31-24 and No. 3A ranked Minneota for the title 34-22. Tanner Mills, Tyler Kuechle, Jordan Joseph and Travis Schiefelbein were all 3-0 at the "Les Kertscher" Duals. The Cubs topped Section 5A and Central Minnesota Conference rival Holdingford 46-18. They dominated the field of teams at the Royalton "Royals" Tourney with 277 points and thirteen place winners. Mitchell McKee, Quinten Berres, Tanner Mills, Marcus Hamer, Jordan Joseph, Caramon Hansen, Quentin Bryce and David Joseph all won championships. Alex Thurber earned second place, Austin Schiefelbein and Jake Linn both earned third place, Troy Filzen earned fourth place and Luke Serbus took fifth place. Tanner Mills won the Fall award with three falls.
3. KERKHOVEN-MURDOCK-SUNBURG FIGHTING SAINTS
The Fighting Saints continue to dominate their foes with wins over a pair of AA foes; Lean and Mean and West Central Conference South foe Dawson-Boyd/LQPV 41-13 and Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 44-25. They also topped Class A ranked Border West 44-28 and Section 3A and Camden Conference foe Ortonville 82-0. The Fighting Saints had a great tourney where they topped the field of twenty-four teams at the "Redwood Valley Riot" Tourney with 178 points. They had nine wrestlers place in the top six with Zach Carlson leading the way as he earned second place and Klinton VanHeuveln, Jordan Rothers, Aaron Doraska and Myrvan Halleland all earned third place and Jordan Engler earned fourth place. Trevor Mahlum, took fifth place and Isaac Froehlich and Cody Peters both took sixth place. The Fighting Saints topped Section 3A and Camden Conference foe RCW/MAC 55-18.
4. BORDER WEST BUCCANEERS
The Buccaneers are missing a couple of their wrestlers; but yet had had some strong performances as they earned fifth place a the "Frazee Les Kertscher" Duals with wins over AAA Bemidji 50-28 and Fargo North 55-18. They dropped their quarterfinal dual to Lean and Mean AA Perham 37-25. Mitch Andrews, Gus McCarthy, Will McCarthy and Nick Stafford were all 3-0 at the Frazee event. They lost a pair of close duals to Lean and Mean AA Dawson-Boyd/LQPV 37-36 and to No. 8A ranked Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 48-28. They topped another Section 6A rival Pelican Rapids 53-15. The Buccaneers topped the field of teams at the Benson "Braves Classic" Tourney with 218.5 points and twelve place winners. Mitch Andrews, Will McCarthy, Gus McCarthy, Taylor McCallip and Austin Maanum won championships. Cameron Sykora, Nick Stafford and Billy Connelly all earned second place, Peder Schmitz, Charlie Maanum and Wylie Pullis all earned fourth place and Combellack Chalmer took fifth place. Mitch Andrews was voted the Outstanding Wrestler by the eight head coaches.
5. BOLD WARRIORS WARRIORS
The Warriors topped West Central South Conference foes Class A Lean and Mean Paynesville 34-33 (8th criteria), Benson 53-24 and Montevideo 53-18. They dropped a tough dual to No. 3A ranked Atwater-Cosmos-Grove 45-13.
6. PAYNESVILLE BULLDOGS
The Bulldogs topped three West Central South Conference foes; Benson 56-19, Yellow Medicine East 51-27 and Morris Area/Hancock/Chokio Alberta 39-25. They also topped highly regarded AA foe New Prague 36-29. The Bulldogs came up this short in their West Central South Dual with BOLD; as they dropped the dual on the eight criteria 34-33. They dropped a dual to Section 5A rival Howard Lake/Waverly/Winsted 34-33 and they topped Section 3A foe Sibley East 44-28. The Bulldogs topped two Section 5A foes Browerville/Eagle Valley 61-14 and Osakis 64-9. They had a great tourney as they earned second place at the Farmington "Tiger" Duals with huge wins over Lakeville North in the quarterfinals and in the semifinals they topped section 1A foe Chatfield 42-27. In the championships they came up a little short against Lean and Mean Milaca 40-30. Josh Hiepler, Matt Doom and Dominick Platow were all 3-0 at the duals.
7. MIILE LACS RAIDERS
The Raiders topped a pair of Great River Conference foes: Ogilvie 58-18 and Hinckley-Finlayson 63-10 and AA Lean and Mean Chisago Lakes 39-28. The Raiders turned in a nice performance as they topped the six team field event in a weathered out makeup in Maple Grove with 186 points. They had eleven place winners including three championships by Cody Whitney, Mark Francour and Chase Niesen. Cody Whitney was voted as the outstanding wrestler of the tourney by the coaches. Zack Olson and Bradley Brown both earned second places and Nik Borchert and Antonio Griffin both earned third place. Luke Thompson, Matt Petty and Andy Sammus all earned fourth place and Tyler Knudson took fifth place at the Maple Grove event. I believe Mille Lacs topped Great River Conference rival Cloquet 66-9. The Raiders had a very good tourney performance with 186 points and eight wrestlers placing in the top five to earn second place at the Perham "Barrel of Fun" Tourney. Cody Whitney, Zach Olson and Chase Niesen all won championships. Antonio Griffin, Bradley Brown and Mark Francour all earned second place, Nic Borchert earned third place and Gabe Tramm took fifth place.
8. PIERZ PIONEERS
The Pioneers have been on a roll without two of their top wrestlers in the lineup as they topped Section 7A rival Royalton 56-19, No. 10 AA ranked Milaca 39-27, AAA Lean and Mean St. Cloud Apollo 37-30. They also had a pair of wins over Section 5A foe Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 64-18 and AA foe Albany 59-7. The Pioneers turned a very solid performance as they topped the teams at the Little Falls "Flyer" Quadrangular; Little Falls 41-30, Litchfield 44-19 and Parkers Prairie 76-0. Clint Poster, Chris Ortman, Brett Brausen, Brad Meyer, Cody Vanzee, Nathan Tomala, Sean Huls and Dustin Waytashek were all 3-0 at the quadrangular.
9. WADENA-DEER CREEK WOLVERINES
The Wolverines continue to turn in strong performances as they topped a pair of Mid-State Conference foes Pequot Lakes/Pine River/Backus 34-27 and Crosby-Ironton 68-9. They earned fifth place at the thirty-six team event at the Cass Lake "Big Bear" Tourney with 136.5 points and seven place winners including: Mitch Steffens as he earned second place, Tony Reurink, Sam Waln and Dylan Anderson all earned fifth place. Jordan Rentz and Isaac Lustila both earned seventh place and Jacob Wegschied took eighth place. The Wolverines topped Section 6A rival Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 56-15.
11. OTTERTAIL CENTRAL BULLDOGS
The Bulldogs topped Section 6A and Park Region Conference foe Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 58-15. They dropped a very close dual to Section 6A foe Barnesville 35-33. In a very good dual where they came up a little short against Lean and Mean AA Perham 39-31. The Bulldogs topped Park Region Conference rival Osakis 43-33.
12. AITKIN GOBBLERS
The Gobblers topped Section 7AAA power Hibbing 43-24. They earned seventh place in the thirty-six field event at Cass Lake "Big Bear"event with 128.5 points and five place winners. Jordan Chounard led the way with their lone championship and Brian Wold earned second place. Dalton Stevens earned fourth place and Kevin Handt and Colton Leplant both eighth places. The Gobblers had a very solid tourney performance with 153.5 points to earned third place at the Mora "Mustang" Tourney. Jerod Novak won their lone championship, Dalton Stevens and Jordan Chouanard both earned second place and Isaac Novak and Brian Wold both earned third place. Adam Jackson and Shaun Phillip both earned fourth place and Kevin Handt and Andrew Blast both took fifth place.
NEW YORK MILLS EAGLES
The Eagles have been on a bit of a roll with their big wins over Section 8A rival Park Rapids 49-22 and Section 6A foes Pelican Rapids 63-15 and Parkers Prairie 60-13. They did earn fourteenth place at the Cass Lake "Big Bear" Event with 91.5 points and three place winners; including Shane Novak and Tommy Selander both earned second place and Maison Roberts earned fifth place. The Eagles topped Park Region Conference rival Osakis 40-28 and dropped a dual to No. 5A ranked Frazee 49-15. The Eagles had a good showing at the Perham "Barrel of Fun" Tourney despite missing a couple of their starters. They had 128 points and eight wrestlers place in the top five; with one championship by Shane Novak. Tyler Patron earned second place and Tommy Selander and Seth Hofland both earned third place. Peter Start earned fourth place and Noah Pesola, Tyler Ehnert and Ty Bell all took fifth place.
EDEN VALLEY-WATKINS EAGLES
The Eagles topped a pair of Section 5A foes Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 39-26 and Browerville/Eagle Valley 48-27. They did drop a dual to the No. 3A ranked Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 63-9. They dropped AAA rival Rocori 54-24. The Eagles earned sixth place at the Norwood Young America "Central" Tourney with 120 points and seven place winners. Jake Forcier and Mike Downham won championships and Tyler Magedanz and Brandon Waltz both earned second place. Blaine Meierhofer earned third place and Austin Peterson earned fourth place and Zach Blonigan took fifth place.
ROYALTON ROYALS
The Royals have struggled as of late with several of their wrestlers missing because of injuries or skin issues. They dropped a pair of Central Minnesota Conference duals to class A Lean and Mean Pierz 56-14 and to Class A No. 4 ranked Kimball 54-12. Topped AA Lean and Mean Windom Area 40-27 and they dropped a dual to the No. 3A ranked Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 70-0. The Royals earned 245 points and second place at the Royals Invitational behind No. 4A ranked Kimball. Andy Poster, Mitch Lange, Andrew Plumski and Kellen Franks won championships and Corey Wensmann, Mike Schmidt, Dan Moulzolf and Tom Averill all earned second place. Brian Schlichting earned third place and Matt Neu earned fourth place. Shawn Urbanski and Jordan Meehl both took fifth place.
MAT RATS TOP CLASS AA TEAMS
1. FOLEY FALCONS
The Falcons continue to turn in strong performances as they topped AA Lean and Mean North Branch 54-21 and AAA St. Francis 33-27. They topped the field of teams at the Dassel-Cokato "Charger" Duals with huge wins over AAA Lean and Mean Shakopee 58-3, No. 7AA ranked Monticello 48-18 and Section 6AA rival Dassel-Cokato 48-21. Tristian Manderfield, Tyler Jenson, Keith Thell, Mitch Dunlap, Taylor Rothfork, Sam Keeler, Will Sustercich and Taylor Lewandowski were all 3-0 at the Charger Duals. The Falcons topped No. 10 AA and their biggest rival Milaca 42-16 in front of a very large crowd. The Falcons earned third place at the Fargo "Rumble on The Red" Tourney with 180.5 points and seven place winners in this field of fifty six teams. Tristan Manderfield led the way with their only championship as he went 5-0 at the tourney. Tyler Jenson earned fourth place with his 5-2 mark and Keith Thell also earned fourth place with his 5-2 mark. Sam Keller earned fifth place with his 5-2 record and Sam Olson earned seventh place with his 6-2 mark. Taylor Lewandowski earned seventh place with a 3-3 mark and Mitch Dunlap took eighth place with a 4-2 mark. Will Sustercich was 3-2, Tyler Bemboom went 4-2, Chevy Goble was 3-2 and Tony Kipka was 3-2 at the Rumble. The Falcons topped the field of teams at the First Annual "Tom Keating" Memorial tourney with 257 points and thirteen place winners. Sam Keeler, Mitch Dunlap, Taylor Lewandowski, Chevy Goble and Tristan Manderfield all won championships. Keith Thell and Taylor Rothfork both earned second and Tyler Jenson, Nick Lefebvre and Tony Kipka earned third place. Will Sustercich and Sam Olson both earned fourth place and Dylan Holly took sixth place.
2. MONTICELLO MAGIC
The Magic topped Mississippi 8 Conference rival Princeton 45-25. They dropped a dual to the No. 2AAA ranked and Mississippi 8 conference foe Saint Michael-Albertville 41-18. The Magic had a pair of big wins over AAA Lean and Mean Shakopee 46-20 and No. 7AA ranked New London-Spicer 43-27 at the Dassel-Cokato "Charger" Duals. They did drop a dual to No. 2AA ranked Foley 48-18. Jake Schmitz, Logan Draack, Tyler Mergen, Ryan Michaelis and Nic Grimley were all 3-0 at the Charger Duals. The Magic topped Mississippi 8 Conference rivals Princeton 45-25 and Becker 55-19. They had a great showing at the Foley "Tom Keating" Memorial tourney with 227.5 points and eleven place winners; including four championships by Eric Bourgeois, Tyler Mergen, Ryan Michaelis and Nic Grimley. Jake Schmitz and Sebastian Gardner both earned second place and Joe Jude and Logan Draack both earned third place. Kyle Lidberg and Jake Berthauime both earned fourth place and Logan Stiller took seventh place.
3. NEW LONDON-SPICER WILDCATS
The Wildcats topped No. 10AA ranked and West Central North Conference foe Milaca 48-17. They went 2-1 at the Dassel Cokato "Charger" Duals. They topped AAA Lean and Mean Shakopee 52-3 and Section 6AA rival Dassel-Cokato 59-15. They did drop a dual to No. 9AA ranked Monticello 43-27. Jake Stageberg, Treyton Austvold, Corbin Schwartz, Cameron Steffen and Shawn Hatlestad were all 3-0 at the Charger duals. The Wildcats had a solid showing at the two day event, the Fargo "Rumble on the Red" tourney. They earned fifteenth place with 108.5 points out of a field of fifty-six teams. Shawn Hatlestad led the way as he earned third place with a 5-1 mark for the tourney and Treyton Austvold earned sixth place with a 3-3 mark. Also having strong showings were; Logan Brink (4-2), Corbin Schwartz (4-2), Ben Henle (3-2) Zach Borka (3-2) and Jakob Stageberg (2-3). The Wildcats dropped a West Central North Conference dual to Mora 39-28. They turned in possibly their best performance of the season as their topped the field of teams at the Perham "Barrel of Fun" Tourney with 263 points and thirteen place winners. Shawn Hatlestad, Chase Austvold, Ben Henle Jakob Stageberg, Logan Brink, Tanner Tobkin and Dylan Hanson all won championships. Treyton Austvold, Kyle Cappelen and Cameron Steffen earned second place and Grant Vagle and David Nething both earned third place and Zack Borka took fourth place.
4. MILACA WOLVES
The Wolves have run into some very good teams; they dropped duals to West Central North Conference foes No. 2AA and major rival Foley 42-16 and to No. 7AA ranked New London-Spicer 48-17. They also dropped a pair to AAA Lean and Mean St. Cloud Apollo 39-33 and Class A Lean and Mean Pierz 39-27. The Wolves went 2-2 at the Wolves Duals with wins over AAA Sauk Rapids 40-28 and AAA St. Cloud Tech 53-20. They did drop matches to AAA Lean and Mean Stillwater Area 36-27 and to Class A Holdingford 35-34 on the 8th Criteria. Joey Curtis, Justin Ladehoff and Joe Hemmerich were all 4-0 at the dual invitational and Joey Curtis, Joe Mascho, Chris Newgard and C. J. Rahm were all 3-1. The Wolves topped West Central North Conference rival Albany 59-16 and 7AA rival Hinckley-Finlayson 57-13. The Wolves topped the field of teams at the Farmington "Tiger" Duals with a win in the quarter finals Park 44-14 and in the semifinals Northfield 41-27. In the championship they topped 5A power Paynesville 40-30. Joey Curtis, Jonah Gahn, Joe Hemmerich and Travis Bertram were all 3-0 at the Tiger Duals.
5. FERGUS FALLS OTTERS
The Otters topped Central Lakes Conference foe Rocori 43-21. The Otters turned a great team performance as they topped the field of thirty-six teams at the Cass Lake "Big Bear" Tourney. With 180 points and seven place winners; led by championships by Marlo Bell, Abbot Aho and Myron Bell. Tyler Giza and Matt Laugen both earned third place, Harvey McMahan earned fourth place and Bryant Marquedant took fifth place. Abbott Aho and Matt Laugen both won their 75th Career Match at the Big Bear. The Otters were short two varsity starters and they came up short against Central Lakes Conference AAA Lean and Mean rival Sauk Rapids 38-24 but the Otters did top 6AA Big Lake 33-23. The Otters earned second place at the Benson "Braves Classic" Tourney with 183.5 and eleven place winners. Marlo Bell, Matt Laugen, Zenner Hayden all won championships and Abbott Aho, Myrone Bell, Bryatn Marquedant and Harvey McMahon all earned second place. Justin Polejewski and Dane Ringquist both took third place, Hayden Walker earned fourth place and Jake Hauge took fifth.
6. ANNANDALE-MAPLE LAKE LIGHTNING
The Lightning topped two Wright County Conference foes Delano 58-18 and Mound-Westonka 68-3. They topped Class A foe Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 61-9. They did drop a dual to No. 4A ranked Kimball 43-17. The Lightning topped the field of teams at the Mora "Mustang" Invitational with 220.5 points and twelve place winners. Jordan Hanan, Alex Couette, Jesse Puncochar and Cal Redemske all won championships. Teddy Erickson, Matt Fuller, Joe Mosley and Derek Rachel all earned second place. Brady Kalla earned fourth place and Tom Condon, Steve Treptau and Nick Anderson all took fifth place.
7. LITTLE FALLS FLYERS
The Flyers had a big win over Central Lakes Conference rival Alexandria 51-20. The Flyers hosted their annual Quadrangular; where they went 2-1 with wins over Section 6AA rival Litchfield 48-34 and 6A foe Parkers Prairie 67-9. They did drop a dual to Class A Lean and Mean Pierz 41-30. Frank Wilczek and Dillon Kifer were both 3-0 at the quad. The Flyers earned 132 points and have ten place winners for fifth place at the Cambridge-Isanti "Bluejacket" Invitational. Frank Wilczek and Dillon Kifer both earned second place and Joe Tuholsky and Jack Jendro both earned third place. Connor Scherping, Dilan Gastecki and Conner Swanson both earned fourth place and Alex Lange, Austin Olson and Adam Grams all took fifth place.
8. MORA MUSTANGS
The Mustangs topped West Central North Conference foe Albany 48-19. They dropped a close dual to Section 7AA rival North Branch 36-28. The Mustangs had a solid performance where they earned second place at the Maple Grove "Crimson" Tourney; thus event was snowed out as a result they were short a couple of teams. The Mustangs had 179.5 points and eleven place winners including two championships by Tyler Carlson and Thomas Hischer. Nick Kastenbauer, Zach Smith and Austin Richard all earned second place. Bobby Davito, Reed Smahl and Codie Lafromboise all earned third place and Sam Larwence, Brent Schroeder and Jordan Koch all took fourth place. The Mustangs had a huge win over West Central North Conference and 8AA ranked New London-Spicer 39-28. The Mustangs earned second place at the "Mustang" Invitational with 193.5 points and eleven wrestlers in the top five. Tyler Carlson and Codi LaFromboise both won championships, Tony Jenson, Ken Kastenbauer and Austin Richard all earned second place. Brent Schroeder and Thomse Hischer both earned third place, Zach Smith, Sam Lawrence and Jordan Tober earned fourth place and Bobby DeVitto took fifth place.
9. DAWSON-BOYD/LQPV UNITED
The United split a pair of West Central South Conference duals as they topped Benson 52-25 and they dropped a close one to Paynesville 39-25. The United went 3-1 at their "Brad Rheingans" Dual meet tourney with big wins over RCW/MAC 49-24, Benson 48-30 and Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 55-21. Lane Mitchell, T. J. Fulton, Codie Weeding, John Weeding, Sam Haas, Ryan Swenson and J. D. Struxness were all 4-0 at the Duals. Lane Mitchell was voted the Outstanding Wrestling by the field of coaches. The United had a strong showing at the Fargo "Rumble on the Red" with 114 points and four place winners to earn thirteenth place in a field of fifty-six teams. John Weeding and Sam Haas both earned second with 5-1 marks and Ryan Swenson earned fourth place with a 5-2 mark and Codie Weeding earned seventh place with a 4-2 mark. Others with good performances were J. D. Struxness (4-2), Garth Ochensdor (3-2). The United Crew topped the field of teams at the Milbank, SD Duals with huge wins over Sioux Falls Washington 44-33, Milbank 48-22, Marshall 48-21 and Canby 37-31. Codie Weeding, Garth Ochsendorf and Brandon Schmitt were all 4-0, John Weeding, Ryan Swenson and Sam Hass were 3-0 and Lane Mitchell and Brandon Weber were all 3-1 at Milbank.
10. STAPLES-MOTLEY CARDINALS
The Cardinals earned eleventh place at the Cass Lake "Big Bear" tourney with 111.5 points in this thirty-six field of teams event. Jordan Heldman and Chandler Trout both earned third place. Brent Lisson earned fifth place, Blake Petrich and David De Yonge both earned sixth place. The Cardinals topped Mid-State Conference foes Pequot Lakes-Pine River/Backus 51-21 and Park Rapids 46-19.
11. North Branch Vikings
The Vikings topped 7AAA power St. Francis 33-27 and 7AA rival Mora 36-28. They did drop a dual to No. 2AA ranked Foley 54-21. They topped BSM in a conference dual 57-18. The Vikings had a solid tourney performance where they earned fifth place in the fifteen field of teams with 118 points at the First Annual "Tom Keating" Invitational. Jake Kostik won their only championship and Justin Bergerson earned second place. Stuart Frink earned fourth place and Jake Pilz, Patrick Mork, Andy Freel and Reid Johnson all earned fifth place.
12. BECKER BULLDOGS
The Bulldogs topped Section 6AA rival Sartell 39-18. The Bulldogs went 1-2 at the Dassel-Cokato "Charger" Duals with a huge win over Section 6AA rival Dassel-Cokato 39-31. They dropped duals to No. 7AA ranked and Section 6AA rival New London-Spicer 52-15 and to AAA Lean and Mean Shakopee 42-22. Eric Dudak was the lone Bulldog wrestler to go 3-0 at the Charger Duals. They had a solid performance at the Brainerd "Paul Bunyan" Tourney with 79.5 points to earn ninth place with eight place winners. Cory Nelson and Grant Knick both earned third place to lead the way and Luke Schmalz earned fourth place. Eric Dudek and Matt Sadlowsky both earned sixth place, Zach Zimmer and Cody Ferris both took seventh place and Mike Soule took eighth place.
CHISAGO LAKES WILDCATS
The Wildcats had a strong tourney performance as they earned second place at their "Wildcat" invitational with 153.5 points with eleven place winners. Dylan Hoyt, Dylan Connell and Quad Zupko all won championships. Joe Virga, Jake Nase and Vince Nirgo all earned second place and Kyle Schoenecker earned third place. Ben Hinderman, William Pool, Tyler Heckel and Cody Fugelberg all took fourth place. The Wildcats topped three foes at the quadrangular AA Lean and Mean Totino Grace 41-22, Robbinsdale Cooper 57-18 and Columbia Heights 75-0. Quade Zupko, Cody Fugleberg, Tyler Heckel, William Pool, Vince Birga and Travis Kammerer were all 3-0 at the quad. The Wildcats 3-1 at the Hibbing "Bluejacket" Duals with wins over section 7AA rivals Princeton 37-33, Hibbing 49-28, AAA Bemidji 41-39. They lost to AAA Lean and Mean Centennial 34-26. Kyle Schoenecker, Quade Zupko, Ben Hinderman, Travis Kammerer and Jake Nass were all 4-0 at the Hibbing duals.
MAT RATS AAA TEAMS
1. SAINT MICHAEL ALBERTVILLE KNIGHTS
The Knights topped No. 7AA ranked and Mississippi 8 rival Monticello 41-18. They had a strong showing at the Rochester's "Minnesota Christmas" tourney with 154 points to earn fourth place. They had six place winners; Shaun Little and Parker Betts both earned third place and Tommy Thorn and Cole Sladek both earned fourth place. Lincoln Mallinger and Jake Lillie both took seventh place.
2. CAMBRIDGE-ISANTI BLUEJACKETS
The Blue Jackets earned eleventh place at the Rochester "Minnesota Christmas" tourney with 110 points and five place winners. Cody Skog and Clayton Jennissen both led the way for fourth place. Derek Swanson and Travis Holt both earned fifth place and Mark Volker took eighth place. They had an excellent showing at the Fargo "Rumble on the Red" Tourney where they scored 140.5 points to earned sixth place among a field of fifty-six teams. Ty Torgerson earned third place as he went 9-1 at this two day event. Clayton Jennissen earned fourth place with his 5-2 mark. Derek Swanson earned fourth place with his 4-2 mark. Cody Skog earned sixth place with his 6-3 mark and Travis Holt took eighth place with a 5-3 mark. Those wrestlers earning team points but not placing were Mark Volker (4-2), Tanner Jorgerson (2-2), Landon Chumley (2-2) and Adam Kelling (2-2). The Bluejackets topped a pair of Mississippi 8 Conference foes Rogers 45-27 and Buffalo 71-0. The Bluejackets had a great performance with 202.5 points and twelve place winners to top the field of eight teams at their invitational. Cody Skog, Clayton Jennissen and Derek Swanson all won championships and Tanner Torgerson, Ty Torgerson, Travis Holt and Cody Glines all earned second place. Ben Hartnett earned third place, Nate Medin and Adam Kellng both earned fourth place and Dakota Johnson and Jon Knowlton both took fifth place.
3. ELK RIVER ELKS
The Elks earned twenty-second place at the Fargo "Rumble on the Red" in this large field of fifty-six teams with 80.5 points. Kyle Wiemann earned fourth place with a 6-2 mark for the two day event. Also having good tourneys were: Eric Stevens (3-2), Holton Lubinski (3-2), Zang Vang (3-2), Yong Vee Vang (2-2) and Evan Coldon (2-2. The Elks had a strong showing at the Cambridge-Isanti "Bluejacket" Tourney with 165.5 points and ten place winners. Holton Lubinski and Austin Stevens won championships and Kyle Wiemann, Jory Lubinski and Evan Coldon all earned second place. Jake Staffenhagen, Eric Stevens and Abe Williams all earned third place, Zang Vang earned fourth place and Cory Collins took fifth place.
4. BRAINERD WARRIORS
The Warriors topped a pair of Central Lakes Conference foes Sauk Rapids 37-3 and Sartell 55-15. They earned ninth place at the Cass Lake "Big Bear" Tourney. They scored 116.5 points in this thirty-six team event. Mack Glasby led the way as he earned second place and Tyler Kohlmeier earned fourth place. Luke Boran earned fourth place , Shane White and Bryton Mutz both took seventh place. The Warriors earned 123.5 points to take seventh place at the Cambridge-Isanti "Bluejacket" Tourney with nine wrestlers placing. Bryton Mutz and Tyler Kohlmeier both earned second place and Luke Boran and Mack Glasby both earned third place. Jessen Franzen, Nate Adams and Jace Engleman all earned fourth place and Jamie Wright and Matt Solid both took fifth place.
5. ST. CLOUD APOLLO EAGLES
The Eagles lost to AA Lean and Mean Milaca 39-33 and to A Lean and Mean Pierz 37-30. In a big Central Lakes Conference dual and Section 8AAA dual the Eagles topped cross town rival Sauk Rapids 39-28. They were twenty-third a the Fargo "Rumble on the Red" Tourney with 80.5 points among a field of fifty-six teams. Mitch Bengtson won the championship with a 6-0 mark. Nam Nguyen earned seventh place with a 4-2 mark and Grant Nehring earned eighth place with a 3-3 mark. Other with a good tourney were Grant Dullinger with a 3-2 mark and Nick Stram with a 2-2 mark. The Eagles earned sixth place in the sixteen team field of teams at the Foley "Tom Keating" Memorial Tourney with 110 points and six place winners. Mitch Bengtson won their only championship and Grant Nehring, Grant Dullinger and Nick Stram all earned fourth place. Devan Johnson took sixth place and Markus Mehr took seventh place.
6. WILLMAR CARDINALS
The Cardinals won a big dual over Central Lakes Conference and Section 8AAA rival St. Cloud Tech 43-22. They had a strong showing at the Cass Lake "Big Bear" Tourney with 133.5 points to earned sixth place in a thirty-six field of teams event. Alex Johannes and Nathaniel Sowyer led the way both winning championships, Coty Milhausen earned third place and Seth Pollock took eighth place.
7. SAUK RAPIDS STORM
The Storm dropped Central Lakes Conference and Section 8AAA duals to Brainerd 37-33 and to cross town rival St. Cloud Apollo 39-28. They went 1-2 at the Milaca duals dropping duals to AAA Lean and Mean Stillwater 38-22 and to AA Lean and Mean Milaca 40-28 before beating Class A Holdingford 36-33 at the Milaca "Wolves" Duals. Eric Olson, Mitch Mehwerth and Caleb Studenski were all 3-0 at the Milaca event. If the Storm ever had all their starters in the lineup they might win a dual. Except for the first dual of the season they have been missing at least two starters or more in their events. The Storm had a huge win over Central Lakes Conference foe Fergus Falls 34-27 and 6AA foe Big Lake 38-24. The Storm had an impressive showing with 145 points to earn third place at the Foley "Tom Keating" Memorial tourney. They had ten place winners with Erik Olson, Mitch Mehrwerth and Caleb Studenski all earned second place. Austin Walz and Tyler Diedrich both earned third place, Ryan Medlen earned fourth place. Tyler Rudy and Chris Keske both earned fifth place, Dalton Siemers earned sixth place and Sean Pearson took seventh place. They were still missing three of their regular wrestlers from their lineup, so considering that this was a very good showing for them.
8. MOORHEAD SPUDS
The Spuds topped Class A rival Barnesville 37-30. They had a good outing at the Cass Lake "Big Bear" Tourney with 102.5 points to earn tenth place in this huge field of thirty-six teams. Chase Morlock won their lone championship and Jacob Rositas earned third place and Brock Tollockson earned fourth place. The Spuds had a great tourney with 209 points and thirteen place winners to win the championship at the Fertile "Pine to Prairie" Tourney. Kenny Mark, Nick Lorenzen, Chase Morlack, Isaac Muliux and A. J. Wheeler all won championships and Joe Carpenter, Ryan Schock and Evan Gary all earned second place. Dan Evert, Landon Dickhaus and Aaron Connor all earned third place and Tommy Wychor and R. J. Olson both took fifth place.
9. BEMIDJI LUMBERJACKS
The Lumberjacks dropped a dual to No. 10AA ranked Grand Rapids 43-29. They went 1-2 at the Frazee "Les Kertscher" Duals with a big win over Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 58-21. They dropped duals to No. 6A Minneota 49-10 and to No. 10A Border West 58-28. Brian Maas was the lone Lumberjack to go 3-0 at the Frazee event. The Lumberjacks went 3-1 at the Hibbing "Bluejacket" Duals with wins over Virginia 48-34, Nashwauk-Kewatin 47-24 and Deer River 42-30. Their only loss was a very close one to 7AA foe Chisago Lakes 41-39. Craig Maas, Colton Doty and Kade Johnson were all 3-0 at the Hibbing event.
10. ST. CLOUD TECH TIGERS
The Tigers split duals with a pair of metro rivals; they topped Andover 50-24 and lost to Osseo 47-28. They dropped a big dual to Central Lakes Conference and Section 8AAA rival No. 12AAA ranked Willmar 43-22. The Tigers went 0-3 at the Milaca "Wolf" Duals minus a couple of their starters. They lost to AAA Lean and Mean Stillwater 53-18, AA Lean and Mean Milaca 53-20 and to Class A Holdingford 60-18. They dropped a Central Lakes Conference and Section 8AAA dual to rival Brainerd 51-21. The Tigers traveled to Mora for the "Mustang" invitational where they earned 104.5 points and they had five place winners. Jerrod Nieland won a championship, Tommy O'Brien earned second place and Tim Mueller earned third place. Austin Klaverkamp earned fourth place and Maurice Martin took fifth place.
11. BUFFALO BISON
The Bison topped a pair of Section 8AAA foes Rocori 34-33 and Alexandria 35-33. They did dropped a Mississippi 8 Dual to No. 7AAA ranked Cambridge-Isanti 71-0. The Bison earned 59.5 points at the Foley "Tom Keating" Memorial tourney with five place winners. Tanner Robasse earned third place and Tanner Maus, Lucas Mock and Gus Koppi all earned sixth place. Cederic Jimenez took seventh place at the Foley event.
12. ALEXANDRIA CARDINALS
The Cardinals dropped three Section 8AAA duals to Central Lakes Conference rivals Little Falls 51-20 and to Rocori 39-35. The third foe they dropped a very close dual to Buffalo 38-33. The Cardinals earned 67.5 points at the Foley "Tom Keating" Memorial tourney with four place winners. Cole Ellison and Andy Bouressa both earned second and Trent Piepenburg and Dillon Schuaff both earned fifth place.
13. ROCORI SPARTANS
The Spartans topped Central Lakes Conference and Section 8AAA rival Alexandria 39-35, but dropped a very close dual to another Section 8AAA foe 34-33. The Spartans dropped another Central Lakes Conference dual to No. 11AA ranked Fergus Falls 43-21. The Spartans dropped a dual to 5A rival Eden Valley-Watkins 54-24. The Spartans topped 6AA and Central Lakes Conference foe Sartell 37-34.
