FARVORITES: BORDER WEST BUCCANEERS and the WADENA-DEER CREEK WOLVERINES
The Buccaneers will have a total of thirteen wrestlers from their Section championship team with a 23-8 dual meet mark. They will have back ten section place winners including four state qualifiers, two of which were state place winners. Despite the graduation of three section place winners they will be looking to defend their section title and for some hardware at the state tourney. Will McCarthy, Gus McCarthy, Mitch Andrews, Ryan Murphy, Wylie Pullis, Billy Connelly and Austin Rinke will be key leaders for the Buccanners.
The Wolverines of Wadena-Deer Creek have back from their 8-9 dual meet campaign a ton of experience. They will return fifteen wrestlers, nine of which were section place winners and three of those got some state tourney experience as well. So despite the graduation of two very good seniors that were both section place winners look for the Wolverines to challenge to section dual meet honors. The Wolverines fans should enjoy a great season with what should be a very balance team. Mitch Steffens, Jordan Rentz, Jacob Wegschied and Jared Wegschied will be their key leaders.
DARKHORSES: NEW YORK MILLS EAGLES and the OTTERTAIL CENTRAL BULLDOGS
The Bulldogs of Ottertail Central will return eighteen wrestlers with a great deal of experience from their 9-9 dual meet campaign. They will have six section place winners return which includes five wrestlers with twenty wins or more. So despite the graduation of five seniors including two section place winners look for the Bulldogs to make a strong challenge for a top four honors in their section dual meet campaign. Zach Johnson, Brendan Hart, Zach Matthys and Greg Blum will be their key leaders for the upcoming season.
The Eagles of New York Mills will have back nine with a great deal of experience from their 15-5 campaign, that include the Park Region Conference Dual Meet Championship. The Eagles have four section place winner returning including two state qualifiers and five others with a lot of experience. So despite the graduation of four very good seniors including three state qualifiers, one a state place winner look for the Eagles by season end to make a strong challenge for section dual meet honors as this years team will make big strides during the season. Shane Novak, Maison Roberts and Tommy Selander should be their key leaders thru out the season.
Look for the West Central Area Knights and the Barnesville Trojans to challenge for a top four spot in this tough section. There are three state medal winners back from last season that includes: Will McCarthy (3rd State) and Gus McCarthy (2nd State) Border West and Stephen Erlandson (2nd State) of Breckenridge. There are a total of sixteen returning state qualifiers from last year's state tourney action. Those not mentioned above are: Seth Felland and Jon Pikop of West Central Area, Hans Peppel of Barnesville, Jim Cossette of Pelican Rapids, Colin Turchin of Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale, Kevin Hahn of Parkers Prairie and Greg Erlandson of Breckenridge.
Look for the following wrestlers: Austin Maanum, Charlie Maanum and Cammeron Sykora of Border West, Derrick Rude and Isaac Lustila of Wadena-Deer Creek, Seth Hofland and Michael Meyer of New York Mills, Tyler Olson and Cody Grasswick of Ottertail Central, Kyle Martineau of West Central Area, Stuart Brandt and Seth Hirsch of Barnesville, Chris Bakken of Pelican Rapids and Jesse Differding of Breckenridge to challenge for medals at the end of the season.

Look for the Panthers to fill in with some younger wrestlers, with continued improvement thru out the season, they should be pretty competitive by the end of the season. Kevin Hahn and Jeremy Schwartz should be their leaders thru out the season.
