MAT RATS CLASS 8A PREVIEW 2011-2012

FAVORITES: FRAZEE HORNETS and the GREENBUSH/MIDDLE RIVER/BADGER GATORS

The Hornets had a great season posting 23-3 dual meet marks and Co-State Champions. Back from that very good team are several wrestlers with a lot of experience. They have six state qualifiers, including one state place winner, one section place winner and thirteen others with varsity experience. Despite the graduation of ten seniors, including five state tourney wrestlers, look for the Hornets to be a force to be dealt with. They should challenge for section and state tourneys honors once again in 2012. Bruce Lemon, Rij Koehnen, Isaac Schermerhorn, Rick Brandt, Cody Piper and Mryrel Schermerhorn should be their key leaders thru out the season.

The Gators of Greenbush/Middle River/Badger posted 15-3 dual marks and section runner up honors. Back from that very good team are three state qualifiers, six section place winners and one other with a great deal of experience. Despite the graduation of four section place winners, including one state qualifier look for the Gators once again to give Frazee a major challenge for section honors. Alex Yeager, Isaac Novacek, TeJay Wojchowski, Tomm Ingle and Timm Ingle should be their key leaders thru out the season.

DARK HORSES: DILWORTH-GLYNDON-FELTON REBELS and the WALKER-HACKENSACK-AKELEY WOLVES

The Rebels of Dilworth/Glyndon-Felton posted 9-8 dual meet marks last season. Back from that team one state qualifier, six section place winners and five others with a lot of varsity experience. The Rebels did graduate six seniors including four section place winners, one of which was a state place winner. They should improve on those dual meet marks from last season. If they stay healthy and improve over the course of the season they should challenge for a top four spot in this section dual meet campaign. Chad Johnson, Jake Hanson, Alex Johnson and Ryan Hamernick should be their key leaders thru out the season.

The Wolves of Walker-Hackensack-Akeley posted good dual meet marks of 11-4 last season. They will have back from that team a number of talented wrestlers, one state qualifier, six section place winners and nine others with varsity experience. They graduated just one senior last season, so look for the Wolves to improve on those dual meet marks. They should challenge for one of those top four spots in the section dual meet campaign. Christopher Zimmer, Blake Wiemann, Devin Wicks and Collin Huckbody should be their key leaders thru out the season.

Look for United North Central and Deer River to possibly challenge for one of those top four spots in this section dual meet campaign. There are four state medal winners back from last season that includes: Alex Yeager and Isaac Novacek of Greenbush/Middle River/Badger, Garrett Hoffner of Mahnomen-Waubun and Bruce Lemon of Frazee. There are a total of twelve returning state qualifiers from last year's state tourney action. Those not mentioned above are: Jake Malone of United North Central.

Look for the following wrestlers; Jake Galbrecht, Jordan Ketter, Austin Skillings and Brett Gildersleeve of Frazee, Brandon Waage of Greenbush/Middle River/Badger, Mason Remund of Dilworth/Glyndon-Felton, Joe Anderson and Devin Campbell of Walker/Hackensack/Akeley, Max Pajari, Tommy Tellers, Sam Tellers, Taylor Carlson and Mike Johnson of United North Central, Lance Serfling, Bryce Ortloff, Cody Mickle, Eric Ortloff and Dylan Latvala of Deer River, Alex Goodwin, Brady Gross, Daven Staples, Nate Jablonski and Andrew Nissen of Black Duck/Cass Lake/Bena/Indus, Jonathon Hoffner of Mahnomen/Waubun, Mitchel Lundeen, Quinten Desrosier and Steven Henderson of Fertile/Beltrami and Tyler Johnson of Red Lake County Central to challenge for medals at the end of the season.
